LogiCore Salutes America's Veterans

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, an armistice was signed which ended the fighting in World War I. Although the official end of the war occurred seven months later with the Treaty of Versailles, what became known as Veterans Day was observed November 11 in honor of the armistice signing. Veterans Day honors American veterans of all wars.

LogiCore appreciates America’s veterans and supports the U.S. Armed Forces, service members and their families around the globe.

“On Veterans Day, we honor America’s veterans and express our thanks for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for our country,” said Lee Eady, director of Business Development and a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel. “The lessons our Veterans teach us are that we must never take our freedom for granted, and must diligently protect it without compromise. I am particularly proud to work with LogiCore as it fulfills its mission of providing unmatched services to our Veterans and future Veterans.”

Maintaining the Air Force Tactical Automated Security System (TASS)

In order to protect critical areas such as fixed site air bases, semi-permanent Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), and mobile tactical deployments, the U.S. Air Force (USAF) needs to be able to sense intruders and to assess situations. To provide this force protection capability, USAF currently employs a base personnel intrusion detection and surveillance system called the Tactical Automated Security System (TASS) at its CONUS and overseas bases.

When the U.S. Army developed its Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM) Program to counter insurgent threats in Iraq, it leveraged the USAF TASS capabilities. The C-RAM PMO consulted with the USAF Program Manager on TASS functionality, and refined its capability as part of C-RAM’s System of Systems (SoS) to provide a core Integrated Base Defense System of Systems (IBDSoS) capability at selected FOBs in Iraq.

LogiCore Corporation, a systems engineering and technical assistance (SETA) contractor, provides TASS Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) to C-RAM’s PMO Logistics Management Division (LMD). For example, Mr. Will Palfrey, a retired USAF Logistics Plans and Programs Officer, is the TASS Product Manager. He currently manages several line items of equipment worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He is responsible for supervising the TASS supply chain, providing vital theater wartime equipment that protects Soldiers in wartime.

LogiCore experts provide system reliability and maintainability solutions in managing the entire supply chain and maintain end-to-end visibility including obsolescence management. LogiCore has provided effective and efficient supply chain management and CLS for the last three years resulting in providing the Warfighter with high-performing combat capabilities on time and within contracted cost.

“Our goal is to optimize material requirements, spares, inventory, on-demand parts, and business processes and pursue continuous process improvements to increase Warfighter readiness,” said Palfrey. The actions are increasing readiness for the C-RAM PMO as the SoS has achieved greater than 95 percent operational readiness in a wartime environment that has provided almost 2,000 localized warnings of incoming attacks.

LogiCore Joins Women's Business Center of North Alabama Society of 75

The Women’s Business Center of North Alabama (WBCNA) assists women and men in starting and growing their businesses by serving as a focal point for information and access to resources, facilitating personal development, and providing a formal mentoring process. Named the 2007 Non-Profit of the Year by the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce, the WBCNA provides access to financing, networking opportunities, and business training. Thousands of women and men have been assisted through counseling, training, workshops, and loan assistance, and these clients are creating jobs in North Alabama.

To further expand its services, WBCNA launched a fundraiser to ask local businesses and individuals to make contributions to use as cash match for Federal grants. The “Society of 75” asked 75 businesses and/or individuals to invest $1,000 per year for five years. This past August, LogiCore became a member of the “Society of 75.”

“We are very pleased to have LogiCore as a member of the Society of 75,” said Joanne Randolph, President of WBCNA. “As a small 8(a) company since 2002, LogiCore brings a lot of experience to the table and can provide great insight and networking opportunities to our clients. The involvement of local companies like LogiCore is pivotal to the WBCNA being able to fulfill its mission, which is to help local businesses form and grow.”

AMCOM Advance Planning Briefings for Industry (APBI) Conference

The Team Redstone 2009 Advance Planning Briefings for Industry (APBI) conference will be at the Von Braun Center (VBC) East Halls 1 and 2 in Huntsville, Alabama, providing a networking opportunity the evening of August 26 followed by the conference on August 27.

“The Army depends on the industrial sector, including large and small business, for most research and development services and nearly all materiel acquisition,” said Major General James R. Myles. “Consequently, it is advantageous to the Army to provide information that will help business maintain awareness of the prospective Army procurement and develop competitive postures in anticipation of those procurements.”

The conference’s theme this year will be “Supporting the Warfighter – Collaborating to Achieve Enterprise Success,” and it will provide current information to further the exchange of ideas with industry. Focusing on Army aviation and missile system support, the forum will assist team members in planning and preparing for these requirements.

“I am particularly pleased with this year’s theme of supporting the Warfighter as several of our employees are former Warfighters and are veterans,” said Lee Eady, Director of Business Development for LogiCore. “Our employees are very supportive of AMCOM and LogiCore’s mission is to support the Warfighter in both peace and war, anywhere, and anytime.”

CIWS – Providing Protection On Land and At Sea

An incoming missile or artillery poses a great threat to a military unit, both on land and at sea. The military must have a mechanism for identifying and destroying these hazards. LPWS obliterates incoming missiles in the air before they reach their targets.

Based on the original Close In Weapon System (CIWS), the Land-based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) provides the capabilities of the original CIWS in a more mobile form, and is operated by Joint Army/Navy Intercept Batteries in Iraq.

LogiCore Subject Matter Experts provide Integrated Logistics Support to the military for both LPWS and CIWS. Our services range from acting as Field Support Representatives and providing services, to resolving technical and logistical issues for the military in order to maintain operational readiness. Our ability to locate required parts, keep spares and replacement parts stocked at the appropriate levels, and to provide technical support directly impacts the LPWS’ operational capability to defend our Warfighters and their equipment against threats.

LogiCore relies on employees such as John Garrity, a retired Chief Petty Officer with 20 years of Navy experience, to apply his extensive knowledge and skill with CIWS to provide expertise in maintaining the LPWS. The support provided directly and indirectly assists the Joint Intercept Batteries in Iraq, as well as troops involved in State-side training. Support includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Researched and provided a recommendation to make an in-theater LPWS fully mission capable using an existing part, thus eliminating the wait time needed to receive other parts and allowing the LPWS to become mission-capable and protect its assigned area
  • Researched and provided recommendations on the required equipment and procedures to perform a depot-level (on-site) repair to an LPWS in Iraq. By eliminating the need to ship the LPWS to the United States for repair and back to Iraq, we increased the operational readiness of the unit and provided greater flexibility to the Warfighter
  • Coordinated the delivery of the first Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) LPWS Operator and Field Maintenance Manuals to provide the Warfighter with information needed to repair this critical equipment in theater
  • Developed procedures to reduce generators burning excess fuel due to running under their load capacities. This greatly improved overall performance as well as efficiency
  • Conducted the inspection of and ensured the usage of the correct ammunition for Mission Readiness Live Fire Exercises to prevent waste and protect personnel from dangers associated with incorrect ammunition usage
  • Assisted in developing the LPWS operator curriculum used to train equipment operators
  • Assisted in the delivering of permanent LPWSs to a training command location. Permanent LPWSs at the training sites reduced a significant number of training days that are normally lost due to transportation of an LPWS to multiple training sites
  • Performed as a Field Service Representative during Mission Readiness Exercises (MREs) while providing preventative and corrective maintenance and ensuring responsive logistics at the right time and location. Our successful performance of this mission resulted in all LPWSs being fully operational throughout the exercises
"LPWS is a pivotal component in protecting U.S. and allied forces and civilians, and I am proud to work with LogiCore and the Navy in ensuring LPWSs are ready at a moment's notice to protect lives," Mr. Garrity said.
